Sicily Sketch Books Update!
There are some updates to report on the Sicily Sketch Books on this website. Book 4 has been updated with new information about the soldiers. It turns out that the majority of soldiers who signed that book were a part of the 189th Field Artillery Band. You can read about the band at this website.
Two of the soldiers, Sgt. Bennie E. Erickson and T/Sgt. Paul C. Waddle, did not make it home.
We have begun linking the soldier’s names to their Find a Grave pages, if one exists. If family members and/or researchers have other pages to link to, please let us know. We’ll eventually go back to the earlier books to create links for those soldiers as well.
There is a new book that has been added to the website! Book 6 was signed by 19 soldiers from 13 states, and belonged to Pfc. Charles T. Nugent. You can find the book added to the Sicily Sketch Books menu.
Finally, if family members or researchers have stories to tell about soldiers who signed these books, please do contact me. In the end, this website serves to honor the soldiers who fought during WWII. The books serves as conduits for their stories.
