Sicily Sketch Book 1

All of the soldiers who signed this book were with the 45th Division Artillery Headquarters. The book contains the names of four soldiers who died during the course of the war. We believe that Johnny Serbin (page 4) may have been the owner of the book and marked his fallen comrades with a star next to their names. The field report for November 6, 1943 states that a Command Post truck was struck by a German shell, killing six soldiers. Lemuel Williams (title page) and Paul Myers (page 6) died at the site of the attack. James Nolen (front cover) died of his wounds on November 9, 1943. Russell Parker (page 14) was listed as Missing in Action on July 5, 1944.
