Sicily Sketch Book 2
Book 2 is signed by soldiers from the 45th Division HG, and is prominently signed on the front cover in green ink by none other than Sgt. Bill Mauldin, the cartooning genius behind the cartoons. Someone clearly had some fun stamping this book will all sorts of SECRET and CONFIDENTIAL stamps. I’m guessing it was someone in the Army post office. Page 17 is stamped with Capt. Ralph L. Dry’s personal stamp. He was working in the 45th Division post office at this point, though by November of 1943, Dry would be promoted to Major.
The owner of the book may belong to the initials in the upper right corner of the cover, but I’ve not been able to identify “EFS”.
